Advantages of Indoor Gardening

There are different ways to accomplish indoor gardening, and there are also many benefits to each way. If you don’t have an outdoor plot of land or place to put containers, an indoor space by a window can be a great alternative. This means you can have plants and/or flowers even if you live in a city apartment.

Growing plants indoors helps to freshen up your indoor air. Plants give off oxygen which allows for much fresher air. This is especially helpful in the wintertime when the windows are usually closed and fresh air can’t come in.

If you want to grow fruits and vegetables, you can do so with indoor gardening. You can enjoy fresh produce throughout the year, much longer than just the outdoor season. Herbs are also great for indoor gardening which are fragrant and can be used in cooking.

What to Grow Indoors

A variety of plants can be grown indoors. If you plan to grow fruits, you can even have your own tropical fruits such as bananas, oranges, lemons, and limes. This is because they will be inside where it is warm all year long, similar conditions to where tropical plants are normally grown.

You can also grow all sorts of vegetables such as peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, strawberries, and cucumbers. Of course, you can grow house plants, b0nsai trees, flowers, and herbs, too. Many plants grown outside can be grown inside.

Container Gardening

Container gardening is a simple, common type of indoor gardening. All you need is a container filled with soil. Adding plant food is a great idea, but it isn’t required. Regular watering and tending to your plants will help them grow and flourish.

You can use pretty pots designed for container gardening or any kind of plastic bucket or container. It doesn’t have to be pretty if all you’re looking for is the vegetation. For example, if you want to grow tomatoes indoors and save money, use a plastic container you already have, cut holes in the bottom, and put some sort of tray underneath to catch the excess water.

Hydroponic Gardening

Hydroponic gardening is a little more complicated to set up, but it’s super easy to keep going. You can buy a kit or set it up yourself. It involves a water system that doesn’t use soil. You can grow all sorts of vegetables and some fruits without worrying about weeds and soil-grown diseases. These set ups can be done outdoors or indoors.
